Make your own bone broth, its really easy!

You want to know what's in your food, enjoy great tasting meals, and minimize waste.  I’ve got a tip for you. Make homemade bone broth!

Bone broth is a superfood for maintaining good health.  Gelatin, collagen, and amino acids released while cooking the bones support your gut lining and aid in smoother digestion, plus help maintain and repair joints and tendons. It even helps the body maintain a strong immune system.

Most store-bought chicken broth is packed with preservatives, excess salt, and MSG. Making your own puts you in charge of what goes in it! And it's actually really simple!

Start with good bones.  Bone broth is only as good as the bones you use. Start with healthy, pasture-raised chicken bones from chickens that enjoy a lot of exercise and sunshine. Slow-cook the bones for most of the day to release minerals, amino acids, and collagen in forms readily usable by your body.

It’s easy! Here’s how to do it:

Ingredients:
2-3 lbs of North Valley Pastures Chicken Backs and Feet.
1/4 Cup Raw Apple Cider Vinegar
Water
1Tbsp. Salt (Less is ok too)

Place the chicken backs in a large pot, add vinegar, salt, and enough water to cover the bones. Simmer for 6-12 hours. Or place in your crock pot on low for 6-12 hours.

This will result in a basic bone broth. You can always add other ingredients to spice it up and boost the nutrients.

Suggested Additions:

Whole Spices (peppercorns, cloves, coriander, bay leaves, etc.)

Onion, garlic, shallot,

Fresh/Seasonal Vegetables (Carrots, beets, cabbage, turnips, hardy greens, broccoli, etc)

Once the broth is done, let it cool, pick the meat off the bones (It’s great in soup), and pour through a sieve to take out any little bones.

Broth stores very well in the freezer for use at a later time!

Happy broth making!!!
