Baked Cube Steak

I think cube steaks are a highly underrated steak!

For this recipe I would skip the salt if you aren’t using low sodium beef broth.

Ingredients:

2 lb of cube steak

1 tsp salt

1 ½ tsp black pepper

1 cup all purpose flour

2 tsp garlic powder

1 Tbsp oil

1 large onion sliced

3 Tbsp butter

1 packet onion soup mix

1 ½ cups low sodium beef broth

Directions:

season steaks with salt and pepper.

Mix flour and garlic powder in a shallow plate and dredge the steaks. Reserve the remaining flour mixture.

In a skillet heat the oil. Fry steaks in batches about 2 minutes per side. Transfer steaks to a baking dish.

Melt the butter in the skillet. Add the onion to the pan. Cook, scrapping the bottom of the pan until the onions are softened, about 10 minutes.

Sprinkle in the onion soup mix and 1 Tbsp of the reserved flour mixture. Cook, stirring constantly until bubbling and golden in color.

Gradually add broth stirring constantly. Let simmer until gravy is slightly thickened.

Pour gravy over the steaks in the baking dish.

Bake at 350 for 45 minutes.
