A step-by-step guide to fool-proof oven baked steaks

Its' almost Valentines Day, What better way to impress your significant other than with an amazing steak supper.

Preparing Steak on the grill may seem daunting to you, and you just want a simple way to cook a steak. I've got good news for you, just bake it! Here's how:

(Prep time is 30 min, if your steaks are thawed)

Ingredients you will need:

2 Steaks ( I used sirloin, but this will work with Ribeye, Fillet and New York Strip as well.)

Olive Oil

Butter (I was out of butter so I used lard)

Salt and Pepper

A few sprigs of thyme or other green herb for garnish.

OK lets do it...

1. Thaw your steaks. Ideally, place your steaks in the fridge 24 hours before you intend to fix them. ( Hint, the following suggestion isn't "food safe" but we do it all the time and are still alive. Just toss the steak (still in the plastic) in a sink full of hot tap water. The steak will be thawed in less than half an hour)

2. Spread 1 tsp of olive oil on each side of each steak and generously season with salt and pepper

3. Add 1 Tbsp of Olive oil to a cast iron skillet and heat it up good and hot.

4. Preheat Oven to 400 degrees

5. Place Steak in skillet and sear each side for 1-2 min. Just make sure you get a good crust on it.

6. Place a Tbsp of butter on each steak, and place thyme sprigs in skillet.

7. Bake in the oven at 400 for 10 Min.  Or until the internal temperature of the steaks reaches your desired done-ness. Here are common temperatures for cooking steak.  Rare- 125, Medium- 140, Well Done- 160.

8. Remove from oven and cover with tinfoil, let rest for 5+ min

9. Serve and enjoy! ( We found the drippings from the pan to be fantastic drizzled back over the steak)

That's it! its pretty simple. Only word of caution is don't over cook.
